Serving others is such a rewarding activity for both us and Christians and for those who are being helped. It helps us understand how it feels to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Others can see the unconditional love that we have for them. We do not expect anything out of service but we do it it help the people around us. Service helps me to see the needs of my community and it allows me to get connected to people who I may have never met without service. Workcamp provides the perfect opportunity to get out into the community and serve. I look forward to seeing the positive change in those who are helping and in those who are also being served.
Service has had an incredibly palpable impact on my life. From a young age I knew that serving others and loving people well was incredibly important. In the past 2 years God has put it on my heart to serve those around me. God has brightened my life through service. When I serve, God teaches me more about his nature as I see more of him in the people I serve and those I serve with. The more people I meet the more of God I am able to see. In serving I am able to come closer to the heart of Jesus. Jesus’ ministry was full of service and love. When my ministry is serving those around me, I am able to engage in the very same ministry that my creator was engaged in when he walked this earth. That’s what service is to me.

Bringing food to single mom families in NE Huntsville has created relationships for Tracy and I and my children with people we otherwise wouldn’t know. We’ve been able to share with them, show them Jesus, and learn about their lives. Seeing some leave the program has been uplifting and joyful. I know it is of God, because it isn’t something I ever planned or desired to do, originally. God blessed me and my family with this task. Interestingly, the more difficult it is to do (standing in the rain or cold, etc) the more we feel the blessing. God is good.
We have been able to house at different times people who have needed a place to stay. One in particular we kept at our house as his parents had both moved away during his senior year of high school. He stayed with us his last semester of school. To this today I enjoy seeing what all he has accomplished and what he is doing with his life for the Lord.
Honestly, it was the acts of service Central displayed to my family that made it clear this was our new church home. There were a lot of other things leading up to this, but this was the “icing on the cake for us.”
We were still in the “visiting churches phase” and had been attending Central for maybe one month- when the ladies group decided to host a baby shower for us ( I was pregnant with Sean.) We were so overwhelmed with such love (and gifts), we knew this was our new home. Not to mention, Jack was attached to Nathan Shedd (instant friendship).
Once I got settled in and adjusted to being a mother of two-I knew I wanted to starting serving in the church any way possible. I have been serving in the children’s ministry, teen ministry and ladies group for at least 13 years, and I love it. I have developed a “servants heart” and I learn something new about myself each time I give of myself to serving others. For me, serving others allows me to live the fulfilled life God had attended me to have.
